SHINYA FUKUMORI BIOGRAPHY

Shinya Fukumori is a composer / drummer and ECM recording artist.

Shinya was born in Osaka, Japan and moved to the United States to study music when he was 17 years old. He finished his musical studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he received several awards, before he relocated to Munich, Germany in 2013. He released his debut solo album For 2 Akis with his own trio, including saxophonist Matthieu Bordenave and pianist Walter Lang, on the ECM label in 2018.

Shinya is known for his melodic and rhythmic approach with a wide range of dynamics to drum-set playing and unique and sensitive cymbal-work, which creates a very distinctive sound. Shinya’s attention to timbre, detail and space is also reflected in the colour-fields of his free-floating ballads.

Shinya Fukumori’s album on the ECM label “For 2 Akis” has received great critical acclaim internationally.
