Nijuso (duet) is a special project featuring two outstanding musicians, Hideaki Kanazawa and Sumire Kuribayashi.

Hideaki Kanazawa is a prominent double bassist in Japan’s jazz scene. Hideaki has been collaborating for some years with pianist, Sumire Kuribayashi, and it’s fair to say they have a very special communication together, giving each other just enough support to allow them both to express themselves freely while taking us on new journeys in familiar landscapes.

Hideaki has been much in demand for decades and has worked with many great jazz artists in Japan and elsewhere, including trumpet legend Terumasa Hino, Hank Jones, Monday Michiru, Akira Ishii, Yasuka Agawa, Sumire Kuribayashi and many more.

Sumire Kuribayashi is an ascending star in Japan and is gaining a reputation around the world for her composition and deeply felt and joyous piano style. Sumire collaborates with many artists and bands in Japan and is very active on the live scene.

Nijuso brings to mind the duet of Gonzalo Rubalcaba & Charlie Haden and there are passages reminiscent of Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Lenny Tristano and John Taylor in Sumire’s piano playing.
